BEST (and WORST) dresses

A lot of women I know like the Oscar season purely for the fashion. I cannot hate on this, b/c honestly if I didn't have such a hard-on for Hollywood politics, I would watch the red carpet purely for the dress-porn.

I was thinking last night about what my favourite Oscar dresses of all time are, and could only think of one off the top of my head: Michelle Williams in yellow the year she was nominated for Brokeback Mountain and went with Heath Ledger. That, and everything Cate Blanchett has ever worn. (She is a fashion god in my opinion).

As for worst, I can think of many more looks without googling: Celine Dion in that awful backwards gown, JLo most years, especially in baby pink with bouffant hair (in fact I find her hair-do's more offensive then her clothing choices most of the time), every dress Marchesa has ever made, Gwyneth Paltrow when she wore that black see-through Alexander McQueen and goth eye make-up...I mean, every Bob Mackie dress Cher ever wore (except they truly are fabulous in their gaudy disgustingness!

Luckily, one of my favourite websites, The Hollywood Reporter has put up a gallery of the 50 best and worst Oscar dresses. Check them out and let me know what your faves are (or if they forgot any!)

I think their best list is really boring and only agree with a few (the aforementioned Michelle Williams, G. Paltrow in Tom Ford last year which was sick, and a few of the old classics--Audrey Hepburn and Grace Kelly).

Cate's Oscar Perfection in Givenchy Couture from 2011

Their worst list however is pretty bang on: vampire Angelina, every Barbie pink dress ever worn, the alien Celine Dion tuxedo/hat combo, Diane Keaton in her fucking menswear! OMG I had blocked Demi Moore's biker-shorts/bustier out of my memory b/c it is SO BAD.

  1. I loved Mila Kunis's dress at the Oscars 2011. And although I'm a Portman-hater, I did like her dress. And I agree - Diane - its time to retire the menswear.
